Claude Phelizot (active 1604 - 1612)
Irregular lobed gilt-brass and rock crystal cased verge watch

Case: Irregular lobed case, the sides set with eight square truncated pyramidal crystals. Dial: Gilt-brass dial engraved around the outside with a symmetrical foliate design. The applied silver chapter-ring has Roman hours I-XII and heart-shaped half-hour marks. The central area of the dial is engraved with town-scape. Blued-steel hand. Movement: Gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Ratchet and click set-up; fusee for gut line. The barrel, mainspring and all three train wheels are now missing. Verge escapement, all components missing. The balance cock is pinned to the back plate. Signed on the back plate: C Phelizot ADijon Claude Phelizot, recorded in Rouen, 1604-1612. Notes: This watch appears to be a marriage between the remains of a genuine 17th - century movement and a 19th/20th- century case.
